1. Camps Bay Beach

Camps Bay Beach is often considered the crown jewel of Cape Town's beaches. Located at the foot of the Twelve Apostles mountain range, this beach offers a stunning backdrop of rugged cliffs and palm-lined promenades. The golden sands here are perfect for sunbathing and building sandcastles – while the crystal-clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean provide a refreshing escape from the South African sun.

Camps Bay is not just a beach; it's a destination in itself. The vibey strip along the beachfront is lined with cafes, restaurants and bars, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists. The best way to do it? Enjoy a delicious meal with a sundowner as you watch the sun dip below the horizon.

2. Clifton Beach(es)

Just a stone's throw away from Camps Bay, you'll find the world-famous Clifton Beaches. There are four distinct beaches, creatively named First, Second, Third and – you guessed it – Fourth Beach. Each of these small, sheltered coves is known for its pristine beauty and clear waters. The Clifton Beaches are renowned for their glamorous atmosphere and are often frequented by Capetonians.

First Beach is popular among families, while Second and Third Beaches are favourite spots for sunbathers and swimmers. Fourth Beach is especially known for its Capetonian crowd and often hosts beach picnics and parties. Time to jol, right?

3. Boulders Beach

Nature lover? Then Boulders Beach is a must-visit destination in Cape Town for you. This unique beach, located in Simon's Town, is famous for its resident colony of African penguins – where the sight of these adorable creatures waddling along the beach is a uniquely unforgettable experience.

Boulders Beach is also a fantastic place for families as the large granite boulders create natural tidal pools, making it safe for the little ones to swim and explore. The boardwalks and viewing platforms also provide excellent vantage points for observing the penguins without disturbing their natural habitat.

4. Muizenberg Beach

Known for its colourful beach huts and sandy shores, Muizenberg Beach is a favourite among surfers and families. This beach, located on the False Bay side of Cape Town, offers warmer water compared to the Atlantic Ocean side, making it ideal for swimming and learning to surf.

Muizenberg is also famous for its iconic Victorian-style beach huts, which line the shore and add a delightful touch of nostalgia to the area – a dreamy backdrop for photos and an integral part of Muizenberg's charm.

5. Llandudno Beach

For those in search of a more secluded and unspoiled beach experience, Llandudno Beach is a hidden gem. Nestled between massive granite boulders, Llandudno offers a sense of solitude and serenity that is hard to find on some of the more crowded Cape Town beaches.

Llandudno is also known for its powerful waves, making it a popular spot for surfers and bodyboarders. The lack of commercial development in the area adds to its natural beauty, making it a fantastic place for a tranquil beach day, sunset picnics, or simply taking in the views.

6. Noordhoek Beach

Noordhoek Beach is a sprawling, wild beach that stretches for approximately seven miles along the Atlantic coastline – a true haven for nature lovers and those seeking a more peaceful beach experience.

Surrounded by picturesque mountains and dunes, Noordhoek offers an unspoiled and serene environment – the best way to escape the hustle and bustle of big city life and reconnect with the Cape's glorious nature.

7. Sandy Bay

Located on the western side of Llandudno is Cape Town's only officially recognised nudist beach, Sandy Bay. Accessible via a short walk through a nature reserve, this secluded beach offers a unique and liberating experience for those who prefer to sunbathe sans clothing.

Sandy Bay is nestled between dramatic cliffs, providing both privacy and a picturesque setting. While it may not be for everyone, for those who enjoy naturism, it's a beautiful spot to soak up the sun and enjoy the freedom of a clothing-optional beach.
